Marriage Education

“Success in marriage does not come merely through finding the right mate, but through being the right mate.”

                                                                                                             Barnett R. Brickner

“A meta-analysis of over 100 studies on the impact of Marriage Education found clear Evidence that Marriage Education programs work—‘to reduce strife, improve communication, increase parenting skills, increase stability, and enhance marital happiness.”

Patrick Fagan, Robert W. Patterson and Robert E. Rector, “Marriage and Welfare Reform: The Overwhelming evidence that Marriage Education Works”

A good marriage needs a good foundation and it takes commitment, effort and skills.  Marriage preparation programs will help you understand issues relating to marriage and learn skills that help prepare for life together as husband and wife.

Pre-marriage preparation classes or workshops are an alternative or supplementary approach to educating adolescents and engaged couples in the skills, habits, attitudes, and enrichment techniques that research shows lead to happy, enduring marriages. Such marriage preparation programs are education, not therapy. Like premarital counseling, some of the classes have religious sponsors while others are secular. It might consider them in many ways analogous to career counseling. They address the normal issues and challenges that all couples face in the course of their marriage.

Premarital education is a good choice for people who are scared of getting into the married life. Some people have some fears over getting married and some have doubts about it. It is a psychological counseling given usually by a religious adviser, health personnel’s, experienced persons, social workers that help couples adapt real life skills and knowledge to prepare themselves and create awareness about future conflicts they may encounter as a married couples and how to resolve them. This will help to damage proof relationship before entering into one of the biggest, most wonderful commitments in life.

Research has shown that couples who participate in premarital education have more realistic expectations, handle conflict better and have improved communication skills. The premarital education will introduce each couple to a number of useful tools and skills to help strengthen their marriage.

According to marriage research, good, skill-based pre-marriage education can reduce the risk of divorce by up to thirty percent and lead to a significantly happier marriage and can also reduce the stress of the pre-wedding period.

Encouraging premarital education is the most effective means of providing comprehensive coverage of marriage success issues and strategies. Just a little effort can make odds a whole lot better over the long run. Young adults want to do everything they can to ensure their dreams of a great marriage and a great life ahead.
